What is the Bond Energy Calculator?
The Bond Energy Calculator helps students determine the overall enthalpy change (ΔH) of a chemical reaction by comparing the total energy required to break bonds with the total energy released when new bonds form. By entering the bond energies of both processes, the calculator quickly identifies whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic. This makes it easier to understand reaction energy flow, predict heat absorption or release, and study thermochemistry concepts more clearly.
How to Use:
- Enter Energy of Bonds Broken: Type the total energy needed to break all reactant bonds in kJ/mol.
- Enter Energy of Bonds Formed: Type the total energy released when new product bonds are formed in kJ/mol.
- Click “Calculate”: The calculator subtracts bond formation energy from bond breaking energy to find ΔH.
- Review Result: The output shows ΔH and tells whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic.
